objectives: this study focuses on the hematological parameters change and age in radiation field workers. the study aimed to identify the effect of radiation on hematological parameters and their relation to age and duration of the experience in radiation field workers. material and methods: this study was conducted in the physiology research center in collaboration with thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies center, ahvaz jundishapur university of medical sciences (ajums), ahvaz, iran during the year of 2008. in this study, a group of 60 males occupationally exposed radiotherapeutic and diagnostic workers with age ranging from 25-48 working for the last 14 years on an average were recruited. they were matched with a group of 60 healthy control subjects in the same range of age, gender and ethnic origin. both groups met with exclusion criteria as per standard. hematological parameters were observed by using a blood cell auto analyzer. results: the platelet and white blood cell count were decreased in radiation field workers with increased duration of exposure. radiation field workers showed a statistically significant decrease (p

Hematological profile of untreated or ionizing radiation-exposed cyclooxygenase-2-deficient mice.

We investigated hematopoiesis in untreated and ionizing radiation-exposed cyclooxygenase-2-deficient (COX-2 KO) mice. We performed a complex hematological analysis of 16 parameters in untreated COX-2 KO male mice or COX-2 KO male mice irradiated with the dose of 4 Gy of gamma-rays and their wildtype littermates. At baseline, hematopoiesis was increased in COX-2-deficient mice, but attenuated by...

Change in Oxygen Absorption of Human Adult and Fetal Hemoglobin Due to 940 MHz Electromagnetic Field Radiation Exposure

The effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) radiation at the frequency of 940 MHz on the structure and function of human adult and fetal hemoglobin (HbA and HbF) were studied. After extraction and purification of HbA and HbF, the oxygen absorption values for exposed and unexposed HbA and HbF to EMF were compared. The slope of oxygen absorption curve for exposed HbA was increased while that for...

Trimester Pattern of Change and Reference Ranges of Hematological Profile Among Sudanese Women with Normal Pregnancy

Trimester specific reference ranges of hematological indices were described in several populations; however, comparable reports among Sudanese women with normal pregnancy are lacking. To evaluate trimester pattern of change and reference ranges of hematological profile among Sudanese women with normal pregnancy, we followed 143 women with singleton gestation since early pregnancy until the thir...

Dengue: profile of hematological and biochemical dynamics

AIM The objective of this study was to correlate laboratory tests during the evolution of dengue fever, comparing frequencies between the different clinical forms in order to use test results to predict the severity of the disease. METHODS This is an observational, descriptive and retrospective study of 154 patients with clinical and serological diagnoses of dengue fever who, in the period fr...

Clinico Hematological Profile of Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia

Background: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a unique subtype of acute leukemia’s. It has distinct Cytogenetics, clinical features, and biologic characteristics. Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is caused by an arrest of leukocyte differentiation at the promyelocytic stage. The discovery and elucidation of the molecular pathogenesis for APL has led to first and only targeted therapy for ...
